AN IMPORTANT WORD ABOUT ABSENTEE BALLOTS

An article from August 3 titled “More Wisconsinites Are Voting Absentee, But Many Have Been Unsuccessful,” wiscontext.org,  illustrates the importance of filling out absentee ballots correctly.  According to the article, more than 23,000 absentee ballots were rejected in the April 7 election in Wisconsin. In Cedarburg alone 209 absentee ballots were not accepted.

The main reason for the rejections was that the information on the ballot envelope was incomplete.  In our state 13,834 ballots were rejected for this reason in April.

The take away:  Make certain to fill out the 3 yellow sections on the ballot envelope correctly.

  • In the top section, sign your name and put in the date

  • In the next section, have an adult US citizen sign as a witness

  • Below the witness signature, the witness must put in their address

Nationally, more than 300,000 absentee ballots were rejected in the 2016 presidential election. With the importance of the upcoming 2020 presidential election, pass the word to family and friends about filling out the absentee ballots correctly.  Read the instructions carefully and pay particular attention to filling in the required information on the absentee ballot envelope.  Make certain your vote will count!
