League hosts "Coffee or Cocktails" to Discuss Fair Maps in 2021

League of Women Voters of Ozaukee County Voter Services hosted a series of virtual “Coffee or Cocktail” events to kick-off a Fair Maps 2021 campaign. Four 45-minute gatherings, January 11-14th, provided an opportunity to present a brief Power Point presentation on nonpartisan redistricting and encourage participants to commit to taking action. Thirty-nine participants (Ozaukee League members and their guests) joined organizers Christy Schwan, Diane Vepraskas, and Louise Mollinger on Zoom for a fun mix of socialization and education. Good questions and some new ideas for action emerged. The issue of nonpartisan redistricting is urgent right now because the 2020 U.S. Census data will be used to re-apportion voting districts based on population (i.e. redistricting) at the municipal, county, state, and U.S. Congressional levels. Thanks to Christy Schwan’s daughter Amy for designing the lively invitation postcard announcing these events. Thanks also to other Fair Maps Committee members Katie Egan-Bruhy, Donna Fowler, Pat Goeden, Joyce Harms, Barbara Hunt, Barb Johnson, Sue Kimmel, and Mary Fran Lepeska for generating ideas and enthusiasm for this 2021 effort.
